today jordan and i have been married for 2 whole months. we have figured out a few things that i am proud of. we set budgets and i have slowly succeeded at them. we are trying to save money in order to move to florida for school. so we set a budget. we are trying to spend less than $100 a week in groceries. this week i had a few extra things to buy but i did spend LESS than $100. i only spent $75. i bought more off brand named products, more bulk meat, & planned what i was going to buy before and only went down those isles.
suggestions for a budget.
-plan each month how much you will make (approx on low end) & spend (approx on high end include dates, rent, insurance, food, etc.)
-see how much you will have left over & designate that to savings
-buy off product brands (i do this with food only. i dont do this with things like laundry detergent, softener, dish soap, and actually food broth because it has more sodium)
-dont eat out (its way expensive to eat out every night... it is hard to save at all but when you designate a budget and realistically look at how much money is being spent by eating out-you feel guilty or at least we do! plus it helps for a healthier lifestyle)
-buy in bulk! even if you dont have a lot of space buying large quantities SOMETIMES saves you money. i buy meat in bulk for the week & when i get home i separate them in ziplock bags for the days of the week. i also buy detergent, soap, etc in bulk. those always are cheaper.
-also, when making dinner-only make as much as you can eat. i am so used to cooking for a family of 5 because i would cook for the family but now i have to sit back and realize its just us! haha that is still a challenge for me & we suck at eating left-overs.
-lastly, we decided to start buying from a grocery store that offers a 5% discount to students-best deal EVER!
i like saving money. even if our checking account seems empty our savings account makes it feel better. haha. who knew saving money could be fun.
